Why does my HP Officejet 6500 E710n-z keep losing connection for either eprint or scan to computer.

Error messages say that the printer is not conneted or turned off. Niether are true. I have no trouble printint from the computer, even though it may take 35 seconds to start printing. If I restart the printer everything works fine, but only for a short time. I have tried connecting the printer to the network via wired and wireless.

this problem is because of the Anti virus program are the other security program causing the problem plz remove the unwanted software frm the system so this problem will nto arise

That statement made no sence. Are you saying to remove my anti-virus progam?

i am not saying you to remove the antivirus program as in many casess due to firewall or antivirus (antivirus firewass) are the program which cause the problem for scaning options only try adding exception in firewall & try to use i cant assure u 100% only you might have changes most of the time...... Dont take too hartlyyyyyyyyy if i have hearted you sorry

I'm having the same problem with the same printer..

first the scan program doesn't even load... just doesn't come up at all..

then, the printer seems to drop off the face of the wireless network, although i can PING its IP address from my workstation. The IP Address is Static of course / ie not Dynamic (Default configuration).

My Windows Firewall is disabled, my AV is Microsoft Live Security Essentials .

I've read other threads elsewhere that suggest there might be a bug with the firmware... where the printer goes into hibernation... but never comes out.

Here is what i would/will try:

1. Excluding all HP processes from AV scanning...

2. Trying Wired configureation vs wireless... maybe the problem is the wireless card does not support WOL features.

i found this troubleshooting article which lists sleep/hibernation as a potential cause... among other things, but doesn't offer a solution for the hibernation / sleep issue...

I disagree. I have several Macs with NO anti virus software. For a long time the printing "system" worked flawlessly. I have the same problem now, I am sick of unplugging the printer VERY often. This will always fix any printing problems I have.  Note that the printer even has a reserved IP address. Since I have a few wireless networks or access points with unique SSIDs, I may change the wireless network and see if that helps.

I agree with Teesalmon, I am printing from a MAC OS X 10.7. Everytime my 6500 goes to sleep I have to turn it off and on to wake it up and get it to connect back to my wi fi network. This is rediculous, I've found 100's of complaints about this issue and no HP rep that I've come across has a fix.
