I think I know what might be going on....it sounds like you have your printer shared over your network....if this is the case you should also see two printers one would be the one it sees your pc or mac is sharing and the Ipad is finding this one thru your pc or mac the other should be the one that the ipad is finding thru your router....you want the second one which should not ask you for a password.

groan.  my Ipad2 says password required for "HPwireless@mdeiapc"   .  I have my 8500 connected wirelessly to my pc.  I can print to my pc and do choose the "wireless printer" option.  But when my Ipad2 looks for printer options, it only finds " HP wireless IP=192.168.0.7.Host=HPPFE9DFA "  and asks for t his password thing.....  Does this tell you anything?  Thank you SO much.
