About
Mount Rinjani is the second highest volcano in Indonesia and a part of the famous ‘Ring of Fire’ and it’s unique formations are the result of millions of years of geological activity including several eruptions of the active Gunung Baru in recent history, it is considered sacred to many people. Seated within a National Park, it is hoped that the natural beauty of Rinjani will be preserved and protected. The enormous caldera believed to be formed in the 13th century after a violent eruption forms its own weather patterns and thus Rinjani serves as a natural water source for surrounding villages. The caldera is home to the active volcanic cone Gunung Baru, Segera Anak Lake, several caves and hot springs.
