Re: HP TouchPad will not charge

I think I have the micro usb misalignment issue.  The Touchpad looks good from what I can tell; all the connectors look good, so it must be the cable.  I will try purchasing a quality usb cable, and hopefully this will fix it.

I have to say that I am glad that there is another way to charge the device, via Touchstone, but if the port goes bad then how do we transfer files?  Is there a wireless method?  I found two possible solutions:

1. http://www.precentral.net/tbtransfer

2. http://forums.precentral.net/webos-apps/238081-wifi-media-sync-now-available.html#post2329201

Re: HP TouchPad will not charge

I came here because I had just bought a replacement charger and couldn't get mine to charge with it.  I tried twisting it and it did not help.  The usb connected to the pc to tp worked, but gave me the insufficient power message.  So, I attached the new usb cable (I needed the replacement because the old usb cable was damaged) to the old ac converter and that did the trick.  This was a new charger right out of the box so obviously there are some defects!

Re: HP TouchPad will not charge

Good info I had the same problem and though the tablet was junk. After holding both buttons for 15 seconds up it came.

Re: HP TouchPad will not charge

I am pretty sure I am having a misaligned USB connector issue.  I've broken 2 USB cords in the past month trying to get it to stay charged (the one that came with the Touchpad, plus another one I bought when I thought that one was broken).  There is absolutely nothing I can do now to make it charge, so it's just going to die.

Does anyone know if I call HP, will they still be able to service it?  Would I be able to send it to them for a repair?

Thanks for any info you guys can give me.

Re: HP TouchPad will not charge

HP support was very polite and tried to solve the problem, I think the hardware plain sucks.

HP is just a fly by night, look at their leadership. This product was barely worth the discounted firesale price and I'm certain this is why they decided to bail out of this business.

Say whatever you want, HP will forever be an Apple Wannabe, save your money for an ipad, forget HP.

Re: HP TouchPad will not charge

While I agree their leadership sucked, I have to disagree about the hardware sucking. I think these problems are not across the board for the hundreds of thousands out being used on a daily basis. I am quite blessed to have found this wonderful tablet for 150.00. Now if I had 500 dollars to spend, I'd get a Ipad, but since that aint happening anytime soon, my Touchpad will suffice quite well.

As for the charging, I make sure now that my kids do not handle the charging, and I be the one to insert the usb charger and disconnect. I make sure to take special delicate care to the removal and insertion. I have not had any problems since my original issue. Hopefully as long as I am careful, I will not have a charging issue.

Re: HP TouchPad will not charge

I too cannot recharge my HP touch pad.  Power supply is snapped into the locked position and is connected properly to touch pad.  Also, there is a crack forming on bottom and back edge immediately opposite of the volume control buttons.  Can I exchange for a new unit?
