Re: HP Touchpad with battery question mark

Have you tried setting up an account with HP. They will be able to tell its age via serial number.

Re: HP Touchpad with battery question mark

In a worse case scenario try following this thread to restore your Touchpad.

Beware that all USB drive data will be lost (photos) and some program and all Homebrew files will go too.

Re: HP Touchpad with battery question mark

My daughters TP is 16 months old.  The battery-question mark shows.  I have tried all recommendations I can find online; combinations of holding start, volume, front buttons.  New USB cable.  New charger.  Ensured charger is rotated to correct position.  Still looking at the battery question mark.  I am able to get it shut off completely by holding the on button with the middle front button and waiting 15-20 secs.  Sometimes is starts back up to the question mark, sometimes it stays off.  With question mark showing, holding the on button just makes my finger sore.  After 2 minutes, I give up, and the question mark wins.  Any further assistance is appreciated.

Do we know if there's a class action suite regarding this? I've reported my issue in December 2012 & still no resolution! Cust Svc is horrible...

No class action suit AFAIK.  Hard to do when most of the devices failed after the one-year warranty!

Have you tried "TPDebrick v004"?  It brought mine back from the dead.

NOTE:  This fis is NOT endorsed by HP.  You will be performing this fix at your own risk to both the PC required, and the TouchPad.  If done incorrectly, it could further damage the Touchpad.  Be sure to exhaust all the other suggestions in this thread - button combinations, different cables and chargers, etc.

Re: HP Touchpad with battery question mark

When I download and extract both files, there is not an executable file within.  The directions indicate there are buttons to press in the top left corner, but there are none (?).  It says, Click Try Ubuntu.  Where is this please?  I dont seem to have.  Says, CLick Dash Home in top left corner.  Once again, I don't seem to have the same window.

Just an FYI, this is not a simple fix.  You have to make a bootable disk (or USB thumbdrive) to load Ubuntu onto a PC, then run the command line editor. Once you have booted into Ubuntu, the instructions will make sense.

This fix is not endorsed by HP, nor is it supported.  It is a difficult, though do-able method.  If not comfortable loading a new OS onto your computer, or risking damaging the TouchPad possibly worse than it already is, I would consider finding a local computer expert for assistance.
