HP advises to ensure you have updated the main system BIOS to its latest version before updating the ME BIOS. The system BIOS is straightforward, and it can be updated from within a Windows 7 Pro 64-bit environment, or from within BIOS. I prefer to update the system BIOS from within BIOS itself. The updating of the "ME BIOS" firmware is less easy. As of the sp66702 the latest ME BIOS version is 8.1.55.1506. You can see in BIOS what version of the ME BIOS is on your Z620 by F10 into BIOS \File tab\ System Information\ ME Firmware Version. Here is the method that I used. First, I ran the SP66702 SoftPaq, which creates a directory (folder) on Root C entitled SWSetup within which resides the unpacked sp66702 directory. Inside that are other directories and the firmware update .bin file. Second, I copied the ME BIOS 81551506.bin file up into the Local-Win folder, keeping the original where it was. Third, the instructions are incorrect in giving the launch command for the .exe.... they refer to a 32-bit environment, but the DR Z620s are running W7Pro in a 64-bit environment, and there are both 32- and 64-bit .exes in the Local-Win folder. The correct one to use is 64-bit. I copied the command from the instructions (the 32-bit .exe is targeted by that command) and changed it to target the 64-bit .exe. The command becomes (not using open quote/close quotes): FWUpdLcl64.exe -f 81551506.BIN -generic (note addition of 64 to the 32-bit command to target the 64-bit .exe). This can be copied exactly as above into memory and pasted into a command window during the process. Fourth, type cmd into the Start Menu's Search box, and right click on the cmd that becomes available to choose Run as Administrator (an "elevatedcommand prompt"). Fifth, run through the necessary cmd navigation shown in the included .jpeg to get to the Local-Win folder (which has the .bin file copied into it), and launch the 64-bit command. The firmware update process proceeds automatically. Note that the image capture includes some of my false starts. Exit the cmd window, restart the computer, check the BIOS to ensure the ME firmware version has been updated, and you are done.
