David 5.3 Is out

What is "pure stereo mode" refered to in the change log?

Re: David 5.3 Is out

Instead of stereo mode we are using "pure stereo mode" phrase for triangulation between cams (projector excluded).

Re: David 5.3 Is out

Is this only a different name? Does it mean that David 5.3 is using a different algorithm?

DAVID 5.3 is using the same algorithm, but when you are scanning with one cam you are using camera - projector - object triangulation to calculate 3D points. With two cameras in stereo mode you are using camera 1 - camera 2 - object triangulation.

Re: David 5.3 Is out

Does this apply (and how) to both extended view or not extended view (whatever you call that these days)?

Re: David 5.3 Is out

I am not sure for extended view but it is probably "cam1 - proj - obj" + "cam2 - proj - obj".

Re: David 5.3 Is out

With stereo configuration you avoid temperature drift of the projector and you have better confidence in calculating 3D points.

Re: David 5.3 Is out

I've generally had better results scanning in extended mode than in Stereo. By Better I mean scans that align better and overall require less work to get to a finished fused mesh. I find that in stereo, even with outlier and error turned almost off, David has trouble scanning steep or recessed surfaces (I know theses are difficult anyway). When I scan in extended I can get more of these features and fewer holes.
