need to 3d scan cars for making coachbuilding bucks

Product Name: hp3d scan

all,

I need a way to generate point clouds or meshes for developing coachbuilding "bucks" or patterns from car bodys . I dont need super high resolution or acuracy but scale and dimensions need to be closely accurate. I am also willing to stich multiple scans together to make a complete model.

Has anyone used the hp3d for larger  work - and if so how were the results ?

Thanks,

Chris

In old DAVID forum there are few examples with car scans. Here is one with the laser scanner, but with the same setup it would be possible to use structured light technology:

Re: need to 3d scan cars for making coachbuilding bucks

Thank you for the response - In the past I have rented a laser scanner to do whole cars and had exellent results,  unfortunately the cost is prohibitive for doing only  fenders and smaller parts.  I would ike to buy a piece of equiptment that I could use for both small parts and whole cars. Do you think the structured light could produce similar results. I have a higher tolerance for dimensions than the laser - but the scale must be correct with no distortion.

is there a customer, vendor or trade show in the NY, NJ area that I could see a demonstration ?

thanks again

I am not sure if you can get demonstartion in your area. There are calibration patterns on the USB Stick that comes with the SLS scanner. You can print them as big as you want and calibrate your scanner for large objects. The thing is that only limitation you have is projector brightness. If you can make your scans in dark place then car scan should be doable. With small parts there should be no problems.
