Hi @Amine1710,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how annoying that feels. Your PC seems responsive at first, then suddenly everything freezes except the mouse. That’s a classic symptom of system resource lock or explorer shell hang, and it can happen due to corrupted system files, background processes, or even graphics driver issues.

Let’s go step by step to fix this:

1. Boot into Safe Mode

  • Press Shift + RestartTroubleshoot → Advanced Options → Startup Settings → Restart → Choose Safe Mode.
  • If the issue doesn’t occur in Safe Mode, it’s likely a driver or third-party app conflict.

2. Run System File Checker

  • Open Command Prompt (Admin) and type: sfc /scannow
  • This will repair corrupted Windows system files.

3. Check for Windows & Driver Updates

  • Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.
  • Then visit HP’s official page for your PC model and update:

4. Disable Fast Startup

  • Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do → Change settings → Uncheck Fast Startup.
  • Restart your PC.

5. Perform a Clean Boot

  • Press Win + R, type msconfig.
  • Under Services, check Hide Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
  • Under Startup, open Task Manager and disable all startup apps.
  • Restart and test.

6. If Still Freezing

  • Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
    • Press Esc repeatedly during boot → F2 → Run System Tests.
  • If hardware passes, consider Windows Reset (Keep files)
    • Settings → Recovery → Reset this PC.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
