Auto-rotation stopped working – HP OmniBook X Flip (after BIOS update earlier today)

Hello everyone,

I bought an HP OmniBook X Flip yesterday.
This morning, after an automatic BIOS update, the screen was still auto-rotating normally when I folded the laptop into tablet mode.

However, later today the auto-rotation suddenly stopped working.

What I have already tried:

  • Updated Windows and all drivers through Windows Update and HP Support Assistant – there are no more updates available.

  • Checked Device Manager → HID Sensor Collection V2 – it is present and shows no errors.

  • Verified that all Windows Sensor services are running.

  • Performed a full power reset.

Current problem:

  • Windows does not show the “Rotation lock” toggle in Quick Settings or Display settings.

  • The screen never rotates automatically when the device is in tablet mode.

It seems as if the lid-position (Hall) sensor or tablet-mode detection stopped working sometime after the BIOS update, even though it worked earlier in the day.

Could you please advise:

  • if there is a known issue with the latest BIOS,

  • whether I should roll back the BIOS or install a specific hotfix,

  • or if this needs a warranty check?

Thank you for any guidance.

@Lord4999, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

Check Device Manager:

Open Device Manager (press Windows + X and select it).

Look under Human Interface Devices for HID Sensor Collection V2.

If there’s an issue (yellow triangle), try updating or reinstalling the driver.

Check Display Settings:

Go to Settings > System > Display.

See if the Rotation Lock option is available. If it’s missing, the sensor might not be detected.

Run Windows Troubleshooter:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

Run the Hardware and Devices troubleshooter.

Check BIOS Settings:

Restart your laptop and press ESC or F10 to enter BIOS.

Look for any settings related to auto-rotation or tablet mode and ensure they’re enabled.

Update Drivers:

Download the latest sensor drivers and BIOS update from the HP website.

Enable Tablet Mode:

Go to Settings > System > Tablet Mode.

Make sure it’s set to turn on automatically when you flip the screen.

System Restore (Last Resort):

Go to Control Panel > System and Security > System > System Protection.

Use System Restore to go back to a point before the issue started.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Lord4999,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

We noticed that this thread hasn't had any updates in a while, since the previous post looks like it has not fixed the issue, so here's the solution to your query. We hope it helps you and everyone viewing this post 😊

Since the 2-in-1 feature is a key part of this device, we want to help you get it working smoothly again.

This issue is usually related to the graphics driver. Please update your system with the AMD High-Definition Graphics Driver (SoftPaq SP163067) from the HP support page below:

  Official HP® Support)

Once installed, restart your laptop and the auto-rotation option should return, allowing you to switch seamlessly between laptop and tablet modes.

If you still face the same problem after the update, please let us know. We’ll be glad to assist you further until everything works as expected.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved, and if you feel this reply was helpful, click “Yes”.

Thanks for being part of the HP Community!
