HP Envy x360 16 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 16-ac0000 (8Z200AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi,

I recently bought a  HP Envy x360 2 in 1 laptop and while I am somewhat happy with it (It runs hot when performing any kind of heavy task), there is one particularly annoying issue which I cannot find a solution for, despite running every diagnostic tool under the sun. There is a buzzing noise coming from the right hand side of the laptop where I presume the fan is running, or attempting to run. It buzzes for a second, pauses and then buzzes again. For the life of me, it sounds like the noise an old Hard Disk Drive used to make when the disk was being written too. Before you ask, I know SSDs can't make that noise but it actually does sound like that. This can go on for several minutes and then stop randomly. I have used the HP diagnostic toolkit and run literally all the tests and they have all passed, so I am wondering what is going on? Is this just  a known "noise" and is it something that I will just have to live with? I use the laptop to noodle about with music software, so as you can imagine, that sound is very, very annoying and I am on a bad run of laptops!

The overheating seems to be managed but I am not impressed with these modern processors which seem to push the limit of thermal control. However, this phantom noise is my main issue and would love to know if anyone else has had a similar problem or is having the same problem

It could have accumulated dust while on the shelf.

Use an Air Duster to blow out dust.  if there is no change then something is wrong,

Return or have it serviced.  Ask for a loaner laptop.  You may not get one but it might speed up the repair.
