Hello,

My laptop always has the error CMOS Reset (502) error when I put the device to sleep or turn it off. That causes some apps not to be able to connect to the server anymore when I turn the laptop back on. Also sometimes the laptop shuts down by itself. Should I replace the CMOS battery? I've read that new laptops don't have CMOS batteries anymore, so what to do in this case? Please help! My laptop is from 2018 by the way. HP Envy.

Hi:

Your notebook probably does not have a CMOS battery if it has an internal main battery.

The internal main battery also serves as the CMOS battery to maintain the BIOS and system clock settings.

Most likely the main battery needs to be replaced.

You can look up your notebook's model number and the battery part number can be found in chapter 3 of the maintenance and service guide.
