I bought a hp laptop fd0082wm. I am trying to the initial setup. It keeps getting stuck at connecting to the internet. My wifi address shows up,but when I click on it nothing happens. I have spectrum wifi. My tv, and cheap smart phone connect but not the new laptop. I unplugged modem and router ; to reset. That did nothing. Please advise anyone

Hi @Owl1971
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.
It’s frustrating when a brand-new laptop refuses to connect to Wi-Fi, especially when other devices work fine. Since your HP Laptop 15-fd0082wm is stuck at the initial setup, here are some steps to troubleshoot:
Check Airplane Mode & Wireless Button
- Press Fn + F12 (or F12 alone) to toggle Wi-Fi on/off.
- Ensure Airplane Mode is disabled in Settings → Network & Internet.
Forget & Reconnect to Wi-Fi
- If your Wi-Fi network appears but won’t connect, try forgetting it:
- Go to Settings → Network & Internet → Wi-Fi → Manage known networks.
- Select your Wi-Fi and click Forget, then reconnect manually.
Update Wireless Drivers
- Open Device Manager (Win + X → **Device Manager`).
- Expand Network Adapters, right-click your Wi-Fi adapter, and select Update driver → Search automatically.
Reset Network Settings
- Open Command Prompt as Administrator (Win + R, type cmd, and press Ctrl + Shift + Enter).
- Run these commands one by one:
netsh winsock reset
netsh int ip reset
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew
ipconfig /flushdns - Restart your laptop and try connecting again.
- HP’s official troubleshooting guide for wireless network issues is available here.
Since your TV and phone connect fine, but the laptop doesn’t, it’s likely a driver or network configuration issue rather than a router problem.
Try these steps and let me know if you need further assistance! 🚀
