So I was wondering, if I opened the back cover of my laptop and just checked the insides and closed it back as it was, does that void my warranty?

This is a peer-to-peer forum.

We do not work for or represent HP, so we are unable to reply on HP's behalf regarding the warranty terms and conditions.

I recommend you contact HP customer service and seek an official answer from HP.

Off the record, I would say that simply removing and replacing the bottom cover shouldn't void the warranty.

If you are planning on upgrading the drive or memory, do note that if your notebook ever needs warranty work, you must return the notebook to its original hardware configuration before sending it in for service.
