Hi @Sjakie73,

I understand your HP OmniBook laptop is crashing with a black screen and restart when you turn on your Sennheiser Bluetooth headphones, showing the Stop Code: SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (0x7E) pointing to ics.sys. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Update Bluetooth Drivers

Press Windows + X → Device Manager → Bluetooth.

Right-click your Bluetooth adapter → Update driver → Search automatically.

Alternatively, download the latest Bluetooth driver for your laptop from the HP Support website.

Update Windows

Go to Settings → Windows Update → Check for updates.

Installing the latest updates can fix compatibility issues causing ics.sys crashes.

Uninstall and Reinstall Bluetooth Device

In Device Manager, right-click the Bluetooth adapter → Uninstall device.

Restart the laptop. Windows will automatically reinstall the driver.

Check for Third-Party Conflicts

Sometimes antivirus or third-party software can interfere.

Try clean boot: Press Windows + R → msconfig → Selective startup → Disable startup items, then restart.

Test if the headphones still cause a crash.

Run System File Checker & DISM

Open Command Prompt (Admin) and run:

sfc /scannow DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

This checks for corrupted system files like ics.sys and repairs them.

Try Bluetooth Headphones on Another Device

Verify whether the headphones themselves are causing driver conflicts or if it’s only the laptop.

I hope this helps.

Hi @Sjakie73,

Thank you for getting back to us and sharing the update. I completely understand how frustrating this must be, especially since your headphones worked fine with your previous HP laptop. Don’t worry, let’s go through a few more things that can help get this sorted out.

1. Perform a Bluetooth Stack Reset
Sometimes, the Bluetooth service stack becomes corrupted.

Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.

Locate Bluetooth Support Service, right-click it → Restart.

Then go to Device Manager → Bluetooth, right-click your Bluetooth adapter → Disable device, wait a few seconds, and Enable it again.

Try reconnecting your Sennheiser headphones.

2. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
Outdated firmware can cause random system crashes with Bluetooth devices.

Visit the HP Support website → enter your laptop model → download and install the latest BIOS and chipset updates.

Restart your system after installation.

3. Disable Fast Startup
Fast Startup can reload drivers incorrectly on boot.

Go to Control Panel → Power Options → Choose what the power buttons do → Change settings that are currently unavailable.

Uncheck Turn on fast startup → Save changes → Restart your PC.

4. Test in Safe Mode with Networking
If the laptop doesn’t crash in Safe Mode, a third-party driver or program is likely interfering.

Boot to Safe Mode → turn on the Bluetooth headphones → see if the issue reoccurs.

I hope this helps.
