@Mauricio_65, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When you encounter issues such as automatic shutdowns or a "Pr Error" message on your HP 12c calculator after replacing the batteries, follow these steps to troubleshoot the problem:

Verify Battery Installation:

  • Ensure that the battery is correctly installed, with the positive polarity facing outward.
  • Confirm that the battery compartment cover is securely back in place.

Reset the Calculator:

  • If the calculator still doesn't function correctly, insert a thin, pointed object into the small reset hole located near the battery compartment and then remove it. This should initiate a reset.
  • If the display shows "Pr Error," pressing any key should clear this message.

Check Battery Type:

  • Use only fresh, non-rechargeable batteries recommended by the manufacturer (CR2032 Lithium batteries for the HP 12c). Mixing new and old batteries or using incorrect battery types can lead to malfunction.

Ensure Continuous Memory is Intact:

  • Turn off the calculator before removing the battery to preserve Continuous Memory. If the memory resets, the display will show "Pr Error," and you will need to re-enter your data.

Self-Test:

  • To perform a self-test, with the calculator off, hold down the ; key and press the § key. Release the ; key and then the § key. The display should calculate automatically and show all indications.
  • If the display shows an error or does not light up correctly, there may be a service issue.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
