@amjackson, Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding the HP 255 G7.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution. We hope our assistance has been helpful!

If your HP 255 G7 laptop is running slowly, here are some steps you can try to improve its performance:

  1. Restart the Laptop: Sometimes, simply restarting your laptop can clear up temporary issues that are causing it to run slowly.

  2. Check for Updates: Make sure your operating system and all drivers are up-to-date. You can use the HP Support Assistant to check for and install updates.

  3. Free up Disk Space: Delete unnecessary files, uninstall unused programs, and use the Disk Cleanup tool to free up space.

  4. Manage Startup Programs: Disable any unnecessary programs that start automatically when you boot your laptop. You can manage startup programs via Task Manager.

  5. Run Virus and Malware Scans: Use your antivirus software to scan for and remove any malware or viruses that could be affecting performance.

  6. Check for Background Processes: Open Task Manager to see which programs and processes are using up resources. End any unnecessary tasks that are consuming a lot of CPU or memory.

  7. Adjust Performance Settings: Consider adjusting your laptop's performance settings. You can switch to "High Performance" mode in the Power Options, but be aware that this may drain the battery faster.

  8. Check for Hardware Issues: Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics to ensure there are no hardware issues. Sometimes slow performance can be due to failing hardware components.

  9. Consider a Hardware Upgrade: If feasible, adding more RAM or upgrading to an SSD can significantly boost performance.

I hope this helps!

Take care and have an amazing day!
