Hi @NV17CE1003ca,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thanks for explaining the issue clearly. When the brightness keys stop working and the brightness slider is grayed out in Windows 11, it usually means the display driver or power management settings are not properly configured after the upgrade.

Recommended Fix

1. Update Graphics Driver

  • Go to Official HP® Support.
  • Enter your HP Envy 17 model.
  • Download and install the latest Intel/AMD graphics driver provided by HP.
  • Restart your laptop.

2. Enable Adaptive Brightness

  • Press Windows + XDevice Manager.
  • Expand Monitors → Right-click Generic PnP MonitorEnable device (if disabled).
  • Also, check under Display adapters that the driver is active.

3. Check Power Plan Settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand Display > Enable adaptive brightness → Set to On.

4. Reinstall HP Hotkey Support

  • Download HP Hotkey Support or HP Quick Launch Buttons from HP’s support page for your model.
  • Install and restart.

5. BIOS Update

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
