Every time I do Google Meet with my new HP laptop it crashes. How can I fix this?  I am the one who has to lead these calls

Hi @C_V_22,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Crashing during Google Meet is not what anyone wants, especially when you’re leading the call. Let's work through this together to bring stability and confidence back:

1. Update Graphics & System Drivers

Crashes in video conferencing often stem from outdated or incompatible GPU drivers (especially when using Intel or NVIDIA hardware).

  • Open Device Manager → expand Display adapters → right-click your GPU(s) → Update driver → “Search automatically.”
  • Alternatively, download the latest drivers from Intel, NVIDIA, or HP Support Assistant according to your specific GPU.
Keeping these drivers current is essential; many Meet-related crashes resolve after proper updates.

2. Disable Hardware Acceleration in Your Browser

Hardware acceleration can trigger conflicts between GPU drivers and video platforms like Meet.

In Chrome:

  • Go to Settings → System → disable Use hardware acceleration when available, then restart.

In Edge:

  • Settings → System and performance → turn off Use hardware acceleration when available → restart.

This often stops Meet from crashing mid-call.

3. Lower Video Quality in Meet

Heavy video demands can trigger GPU stress and crashes. Reduce resolution to lighten the load:

  • In a Meet session, click ⋮ (More)Settings → Video.
  • Set both Send and Receive resolution to Standard (360p).

4. Check for Hardware Issues

If driver tweaks don’t help, a deeper system check is needed:

  • Run Windows Memory Diagnostic: Press Win + R, type mdsched.exe, and reboot to test RAM.
  • Consider using MemTest86 for a thorough RAM check. Crashes with Heap corruption errors might indicate faulty memory.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
