HP ZBook Ultra G1a 14 inch Mobile Workstation PC IDS Base Model

I don't think HP dev team would see this post but..

I have been using HP ZBOOK ULTRA G1a and it's a great laptop.
but I dont think the laptop needs 140w charger. at least does not have to limit performance that much when 100w charger is plugged in.

I have decompiled DSDT and searched ACPI BIOS of this laptop and..
if the charger is rated 100W or lower, TDP limit goes 60w(short) -> 45w(sustained) -> 35w(later)
(originally 81w->70w ->55w    I think)

But if I  plug in 100w before booting, and disable Amd PMF in bios,
the TDP limit goes same as 140w with disabled PMF, 71w(short)->60w(sustained)->45w(later)
and its still charging well even the 60w tdp is sustained for long
Its slow but it does not discharge anyway.
(using OG 140w charger still discharge anyway. the charging limit is so tight!!)

I know HP is a big company and do not take any risks but
most of third pary 140w charger and cable are not compatible with this laptop (I dont know why)
and majority of thunderbolt 4, 5 docks and monitors with c type supports 100w only.

So Please!
Next firmware update!
HP please give more power when I use 100w charger.
system uses about 30w max including maximum bright monitor. So just make it 60w(short)->55w(sustained)->50w(later).
DELL's XPS 14 155h had similar TDP for both cpu and gpu (total 65~60w) and still used 100w charger and it worked.
The charging was slow when heavy load but there are much much benefit with 100w charger!!

Thank you for reaching out!

Thank you for sharing your detailed observations regarding the ZBook Ultra G1a and its power management with 100W chargers. We truly appreciate the time you took to analyze the DSDT and ACPI BIOS behavior, and your suggestions are insightful.

We understand your concern about TDP limits when using lower-wattage chargers and how it affects performance. While the laptop is designed to prioritize safety and reliability, your feedback about allowing higher TDP under a 100W charger scenario is valuable.

We will forward this feedback to the appropriate firmware and engineering teams for consideration in future updates. In the meantime, please continue to monitor your system’s performance and ensure you are using certified chargers to maintain optimal safety.

We appreciate your input and your enthusiasm for maximizing the capabilities of your ZBook Ultra G1a.
