After powering up my HP laptop the Microsoft sign in page appears. When I click the sign in link a Microsoft account pop-up window appears stating you'll need internet access for this, and it doesn't look like I'm connected to the internet check my connection and try again.  I checked my internet access and I am connected through Wi-Fi to  my home Wi-Fi account. Even if I change the internet connection access and use the hotspot to my mobile, I still get the same pop-up message.

Hi again,

I had already done everything possible to confirm my internet was not the issue, including multiple reboots to the router and the laptop.

I managed to **bleep**, who stated it was not a HP laptop issue and that I needed to call Microsoft. Unable to reach a person via Microsoft (only AI bots)

I systematically eent through every option available to reset/reinstall back to previous automatic updates.

The solution was: Shift + start - troubleshoot - advanced options - start up options - restart. Enter bitlocker key (48 characters) - system restore (choose earlier date before last auto update).

Problem solved!

You're welcome. ☺️

Hi @Tracio1,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

This issue typically arises when there's a problem with the laptop recognizing the internet connection, even if it seems that you are connected to Wi-Fi or another network. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Verify Internet Connection:

  • Ensure your Wi-Fi router is operational and providing internet access. You can check this by connecting another device, such as a smartphone, to the same network to ensure it has internet access.

Reboot Your Laptop and Router:

  • Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve connectivity issues. Restart your HP laptop and the Wi-Fi router. This can help refresh the network connection.

Try Ethernet Connection:

  • If possible, connect your laptop directly to the router using an Ethernet cable. This can bypass wireless connection issues and might allow you to sign in.

Network Troubleshooter:

  • Use the Network Troubleshooter by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Status and selecting Network troubleshooter. This tool can automatically detect and fix some network issues.

Check Airplane Mode:

  • Ensure that Airplane Mode is turned off. You can check this by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Airplane mode.

Forget and Re-connect to Wi-Fi:

  • Forget the Wi-Fi network in your laptop's settings and reconnect by entering the Wi-Fi password again. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi > Manage known networks, select your network, and choose Forget.

Windows Update and Drivers:

  • If you can access the internet through another network, make sure your Windows and network drivers are up to date. Outdated drivers can sometimes cause connectivity issues.

Take care and have an amazing day!
