Daily my PC downloads Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM - 49.0.4395.18315 and usually posts successfully downloaded. Then, I receive a message on the Windows Update window: Install error - 0x80070103.
How can I stop this update from downloading? I have checked both windows and HP accounts.

Hi @AustinMusic,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Try these steps:
Hide the Problematic Update:
- Use the "Show or hide updates" troubleshooter from Microsoft to hide this specific update and prevent it from attempting to install in the future.
- You can download the troubleshooter from the Microsoft Support website.
Install Drivers Manually:
- Visit the HP Support website to manually download and install the necessary drivers for your USB. Installing updated drivers manually can sometimes prevent unwanted updates.
- Ensure you're installing drivers compatible with Windows 11.
Device Manager Check:
- Open Device Manager by right-clicking the Start button and selecting "Device Manager."
- Look for any yellow exclamation marks indicating driver issues and update manually if needed.
Disable Automatic Driver Updates:
- Open the Control Panel and navigate to System and Security > System > Advanced system settings.
- Under the Hardware tab, click "Device Installation Settings."
- Select "No (your device might not work as expected)" to stop Windows from downloading manufacturer apps and custom icons.
Clear Windows Update Cache:
- Run Command Prompt as Administrator and execute the following commands to stop services and rename the SoftwareDistribution folder:net stop wuauserv net stop bits ren C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old net start wuauserv net start bits
- This clears the cache and might resolve update errors.
Windows Update Troubleshooter:
- Run the built-in Windows Update troubleshooter, found in Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters, to detect and fix potential issues automatically.
I hope this helps.
