Hello I had an old dv7 pavilion laptop I owned it right up until a low life stole it from the back seat of me car I’m just wondering are there any tricks on how to get my serial number and windows number, no I didn’t copy my serial number nor did I have find my laptop on so I got no evidence I ever owned except for two remotes a tv ariel and a very flat battery, I tried Harvey Norman where I bought it, cause it was around 2010 or I can’t remember the phone number I gave them back then, it might just be too long ago for them to still have my information, I get excited with Microsoft beccause for that laptop they would have me registered twice once for when I bought it with win7 then again back in around 2018-19 when I upgraded it to win10, I came on this site because I wondered did I ever get in touch with hp back when I got it cause I was always having trouble with it they might have my serial at least but this site doesn’t remember the email I had then and still got now, just so happens the Hotmail I’m talking about would’ve had some emails and information on it about that computer but about 12 months ago they deleted most of my account or inbox from 03-2012 or 14  I needed emails from 2010 anyway it’s bad when you know who stole it were it is at least up until 10 or 12 months ago the police don’t do anything unless it falls in there lap , I can’t go there cause there would most definitely be violence, if only I had that windows find my laptop on, I didn’t even know it existed, yeah I miss me old computer specially with all the stuff I had on it, over 10 years worth and I got it all fixed up as well it even had 2 passwords on it one for boot up and one to open windows they say they can get around them easily that made me angry, but anyway if anyone knows any tricks to get information out of Microsoft that would make me happy, I checked my devices in Microsoft nothing, one mobile I never knew I had, I should have had at least 5 previous things in Microsoft devices but there’s none, anyway thankyou for reading it

Hi @Doss72,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I’m truly sorry to hear about what happened to your Pavilion dv7. Losing a personal device, especially one you’ve had for years and with so many memories and data, is extremely upsetting, and I completely understand why you’re trying to retrieve any information you can.

For cases involving stolen HP laptops, HP does want to help, but there are important security policies we must follow.

HP Policy for Stolen Devices

HP cannot provide serial numbers, Windows keys, ownership records, or any identity-linked information directly without a formal request from law enforcement.
This is to protect customer safety and prevent misuse of personal data.

Because of this, HP is unable to confirm ownership or release serial-number information based on past emails or personal recollection alone.

What you can do next

The correct process is:

1. File a police report (if you haven’t already)

Even if it has been a long time, law enforcement can still record the incident.

2. Police or law enforcement must contact HP Security

When the police submit an official request, HP’s Security & Fraud Prevention team can:

  • Look up the system using any available clues (name, email, old support history, etc.)
  • Confirm the serial number
  • Provide information to the authorities only, not directly to the customer
  • Assist if the device ever appears for warranty or service

Unfortunately, HP cannot act or provide system details without this step.

About Windows or Microsoft Records

Microsoft typically removes inactive devices after long periods, especially if they haven’t checked in online.
Because your laptop was from around 2010 and stopped syncing years ago, it’s expected that it no longer shows under your Microsoft account.

There is no method for HP to restore or access those Microsoft device entries.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
