@5CD2381NJ0,

Welcome to HP Support Community, thank you for posting your query.

Looks like your laptop is charging up some attitude! 😎 Don’t worry, we’ll sort it out together and get that battery running smoothly again. Let’s dive into these troubleshooting steps and zap those issues away!

Check the Power Source

  • Ensure that the power outlet you're plugging the charger into is working. Try plugging something else (like a phone charger or lamp) into the same outlet to confirm it's providing power.

Inspect the Charger and Cable

  • Inspect the original charger for any visible damage (fraying, bent pins, etc.) or loose connections. If you have access to a multimeter, check the output voltage to make sure it's matching the laptop's charging requirements (usually printed on the charger).
  • Test the new USB-C charger on other devices to ensure it’s working properly.

Test with Another Charger

  • If you haven’t already, test with a different charger that is known to work with your HP Pavilion. You mentioned using a friend's charger, so verify if it's an official HP charger or one compatible with your laptop's model.

Check the Charging Port

  • Look inside the charging port of the laptop for any dust, lint, or debris. A can of compressed air can help clear out any buildup. Check that the port isn’t physically damaged.
  • Ensure the port is clean and undamaged, as physical damage can prevent proper charging.

Power Reset

  • Sometimes, a power reset can help resolve charging issues. To perform this:
    1. Unplug the charger from the laptop.
    2. Hold down the power button for 15-20 seconds to drain any residual power.
    3. Plug the charger back in and try turning the laptop on again.

Check Battery and Power Settings

  • Go to "Device Manager": Press Windows + X, then select "Device Manager". Look under "Batteries" for "Microsoft AC Adapter" and "Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery". Right-click on each one and select "Uninstall device," then restart your laptop. Windows should automatically reinstall these drivers upon reboot.
  • Check for updates: Make sure your system and battery drivers are up to date. Go to HP Support and check for the latest BIOS and driver updates for your model.

Check Battery Health

  • Use HP's Battery Check Utility or a similar tool to assess the health of your battery.

BIOS Update and Reset

  • Sometimes, a BIOS reset can resolve charging issues:
    1. Turn off the laptop.
    2. Press Esc repeatedly as you power it on to enter the Startup Menu.
    3. Select "BIOS Setup" (F10).
    4. Once in BIOS, select Restore Defaults and save the changes.
    5. Reboot the laptop and test charging again.

Check Power Settings

  • Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery to ensure there are no settings limiting charging or causing an issue. For instance, check if the battery saver is enabled.

Test Charging in Safe Mode

  • Sometimes, a third-party application can interfere with charging. Booting into Safe Mode will help rule out software-related issues.
  • Check out this helpful guide to boot into Safe Mode.
