I can scan documents with less than 30 pages fine and save the scan but over 30-35 pages the scanner hangs and the scanned file is lost. How to scan larger documents or is there a size limit that is a "secret"?

@kathymac733, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When scanning large documents, there could be several factors affecting the scan performance, leading to hanging issues or loss of scanned files. Here are some steps and tips you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve these issues:

Check Scanner Settings:

  • Ensure that the scan settings such as resolution and file type are optimal for large documents. Scanning at a lower resolution can help reduce the file size and improve scanning performance.
  • High-resolution scans create larger files that can lead to processing delays or crashes. If high resolution isn't necessary, consider reducing it.

Evaluate Memory and Storage:

  • Confirm there is enough memory available on the computer where the scanned files are being saved.
  • Ensure that the destination folder has sufficient storage space to accommodate large scan files.

Split the Scan Job:

  • If scanning over 30 pages consistently hangs, consider scanning in batches (e.g., 20 pages at a time), and then combine the files if needed using PDF software.

Update Software and Drivers:

  • Make sure the HP Scan software and printer drivers are up-to-date. Visit HP's Support to check for any available updates.

Check Network Connection:

  • If the scanner is network-connected, ensure that the network connection is stable. A weak or intermittent connection could cause scan operations to fail.

Avoid Running Heavy Applications:

  • Close any unnecessary applications that may be consuming system resources during the scanning process.

Administrative Controls:

  • Verify any user restrictions or administrative settings on the computer or printer that may limit the scanning size or file saving capabilities.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
