I cannot figure out how to connect my HP slim rechargeable pen to my HP Omni Book 5 it is the black pen with the one side button and the three metal dots that goes into a charging case. I looked up how to do it, but everything was a different type of pen.

Hi @SharonAria26,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Slim Rechargeable Pen not connecting to your HP OmniBook 5. Let’s go through a few checks.

Before we proceed:
Does your OmniBook 5 model support an active pen? (Not all OmniBook 5 models include touch or pen support.)

Meanwhile, you can follow these steps:

Step 1: Confirm the Laptop Supports Pen Input

  • Press Windows + R.
  • Type msinfo32 and press Enter.
  • Look for “Pen and Touch.”
  • It should say “Pen support” or “Pen and touch support.”
  • If it says “No pen or touch input is available,” the laptop does not support active pens.

Step 2: Charge the Pen Fully

  • Place the pen into its charging case.
  • Ensure the three metal contact points align correctly.
  • Charge for at least 30 minutes.
  • Press the side button once to confirm response (if LED present).
  • Low battery can prevent pairing.

Step 3: Check If the Pen Requires Bluetooth Pairing

  • Most HP Slim Rechargeable Pens use Microsoft Pen Protocol (MPP) and do not require manual Bluetooth pairing for writing.
  • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
  • If the pen appears under Bluetooth, remove it.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • Try writing directly on the screen without pairing.
  • If it supports MPP, it should work automatically on contact.

Step 4: Install or Update Touchscreen and Pen Drivers

  • Right-click Start and select Device Manager.
  • Expand Human Interface Devices.
  • Ensure “HID-compliant touch screen” is listed.
  • Right-click and select Update driver.
  • Restart the laptop.
  • If the touch screen driver is missing, pen input will not function.

Step 5: Check Windows Pen Settings

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to Bluetooth & devices > Pen & Windows Ink.
  • Verify pen options are visible.
  • Test in a simple app like Microsoft Whiteboard or OneNote.

If the pen does not respond after these steps and your system shows no pen support in System Information, the OmniBook 5 model may not be compatible with active pens.

I hope this helps.
