HP Recommended

I'm trying to use the CTRL+HOME and CTRL+END key combinations on my HP OmniBook 5 Flip. Unfortunately, when I press the combinations, they are not taking me to the beginning/end of a document in Word, Excel, emails. Basically everything. I also cannot highlight any text in any program, email, etc. This is a brand new laptop.  Does HP not offer these features anymore. My left click also doesn't really work well unless I slam down on it. Is this laptop a lemon!?!
