when I check the serial number on the HP website a newer model laptop comes up. Does anybody else have this in here

If that is happening to you, then your notebook is 10 or more years old, and support has been retired for it.

 

HP only uses one digit for the year of manufacture in the serial number.

 

The 4th character of the serial number is the year (0-9), which means some serial numbers can be duplicated every 10 years.

 

You can enter your notebook's serial number in the HP Partsurfer database at the link below and you should be given an option to select the model PC you have.

That's not going to help you any, but if you let me know what it is you're looking for, I can try and help you, but I would need to know the full model number or product number of your PC.
