Welcome to HP Support Community, @Priyanshu_07

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Pavilion gaming laptop is shutting down suddenly without warning, follow these steps to identify and fix the problem.

1. Check for Overheating

Overheating is the most common reason for unexpected shutdowns.

Ensure vents and cooling fans are not blocked.

Clean dust from vents using compressed air.

Use the laptop on a hard, flat surface (avoid beds/sofas).

If the laptop gets unusually hot, consider reapplying thermal paste (advanced users) or servicing.

2. Update BIOS, Chipset & Graphics Drivers

Outdated firmware or drivers can cause random shutdowns.

Open HP Support Assistant → Update all recommended drivers.

Install the latest BIOS, chipset, and GPU (Nvidia/AMD) updates.

Restart after updating.

3. Scan for Malware

Malware or corrupted system files can trigger system crashes.

Run a full scan using Windows Defender.

Optionally use Malwarebytes for a deeper check.

Repair system files using:

sfc /scannow

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

4. Check Battery & Power Adapter

Power irregularities may cause sudden power cuts.

Try running the laptop only on the charger (remove the battery if removable).

Test with a different compatible adapter if available.

Ensure the charging port is not loose or damaged.

5. Check Event Viewer for Critical Errors

Event Viewer helps identify the exact cause.

Open Event Viewer → Windows Logs → System

Look for Critical, Kernel-Power, or Thermal events.

Note error timestamps related to the shutdowns.

6. Perform a Hard Reset

This clears residual electrical charges and resets hardware states.

Shut down the laptop.

Disconnect all peripherals and charger.

Hold Power button for 15 seconds.

Reconnect charger and power on.

7. Install Windows Updates

System instability can occur if Windows is outdated.

Go to Settings → Update & Security → Windows Update

Install all pending updates.

Restart your system.

8. Boot in Safe Mode

Safe Mode helps identify whether third-party software is responsible.

If the laptop runs normally in Safe Mode, a background app or driver is likely causing the shutdowns.

Uninstall recently installed apps or drivers.

9. Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

HP’s built-in diagnostic tools can detect failing hardware.

Press F2 repeatedly on startup → HP Diagnostics.

Run System Tests → Extensive Test.

Check CPU, GPU, RAM, and battery health.

If diagnostics show errors, hardware repair may be required.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
