Hi my laptop HP pavilion was working fine. Then screen just shut down. Battery was charged. Wouldn’t turn on again. I tried draining battery then doing reset. Tried with battery cable in. Nothing. The laptop isn’t responding to anything no led activity. Have tried all the usual resets. Any advice

Hi @Dia333

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I am sorry for the sudden shutdown and the complete lack of response from your HP Pavilion laptop. I understand how unsettling it feels when the system was working fine, the battery was charged, and then it simply went dead with no lights or activity. I appreciate the effort you’ve already made in draining the battery, trying resets, and testing with the power cable.

Here are steps you can try to bring it back to life:

Step 1: Check Power Source and Adapter

  • Ensure the power adapter is firmly connected to both the laptop and wall outlet.
  • If possible, test with another compatible HP adapter to rule out a faulty charger.

Step 2: Perform a Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the power adapter and remove any external devices (USB drives, peripherals).
  • Hold down the power button for 15–20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the adapter and try powering on again.

Step 3: Inspect Battery and AC Connection

  • If your Pavilion model has a removable battery, take it out and reseat it.
  • Try powering on with only the AC adapter connected (battery removed).
  • Then try with battery only (adapter disconnected).

Step 4: Check for Signs of Life

  • Look closely at the charging port and keyboard for any faint LED activity.
  • If no lights appear, press the power button while holding down the Windows + B keys.
  • This can sometimes trigger BIOS recovery if the system is stuck.

Step 5: Reset Hardware Components

  • Disconnect the adapter, hold the power button for 60 seconds, then reconnect.
  • This helps discharge static and reset the embedded controller.

Step 6: Update BIOS and Drivers (if it powers on)

  • If the laptop responds after these steps, immediately check for BIOS updates and drivers here:
    https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
  • Enter your Pavilion model number and install the latest updates.

These steps should help determine whether the issue is power‑related, battery‑related, or a deeper hardware fault.
