I’ve had my HP laptop for a few years. A few months ago it stopped turning on. When I plug in the charger the light is on, but the screen doesn’t turn on.

@44Dreaaaa, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP laptop is not turning on despite the charger being plugged in and the light being on, here are a few steps you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Check for a hard reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Unplug the AC adapter.
  • Remove the battery if possible.
  • Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter (not the battery) and press the power button.

Check the power source:

  • Try using a different power outlet.
  • Test with a different charger if available.

Connect to an external monitor:

  • Connect the laptop to an external monitor to check if there is a display issue.

Perform a BIOS recovery:

  • Turn off the laptop.
  • Press Power + Windows Key + B, holding them down for a few seconds.
  • Follow the BIOS recovery instructions if the key combination initiates a recovery.

Check for hardware issues:

  • If none of the above steps work, there may be a hardware fault. Consider contacting HP support for further diagnostics and potential repair.
