To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

 

  • Are you seeing an error message when you try to open the camera?
  • Does the camera app open but show a black screen, or does it fail to detect the camera entirely?
  • Did this issue start after a recent update or change to your system?

In the meantime, here are a few troubleshooting steps you can try:

  • Check privacy settings: Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and make sure apps are allowed to access the camera.
  • Test in Camera app: Open the built‑in Camera app from the Start menu to see if the camera works there.
  • Device Manager check: Press Windows + X, select Device Manager, expand Cameras or Imaging devices, and confirm the camera is listed. If it has a yellow warning icon, right‑click and choose Update driver.
  • Enable camera: Sometimes the camera is disabled. In Device Manager, right‑click the camera and select Enable device.
  • Keyboard shortcut: On some HP laptops, the camera can be toggled off with a function key (often F8 or F10). Make sure it isn’t disabled this way.
  • HP Support Assistant: Run HP Support Assistant to check for driver updates specific to your model.
