Victus by HP 15.6 inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb3000 (A8RU2AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently purchased HP Victus 15-fb3012AX from an authorized HP store based on information provided by HP Assistant and the store staff, claiming the GPU (RTX 3050) supports a 75W TGP. Independent benchmarks show the GPU is hard-locked at 50W. I kindly request the HP community to help me with this.

Hi @sidshash,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for reaching out to HP Support regarding your Victus by HP 15.6-inch Gaming Laptop 15-fb3012AX (Product ID: A8RU2AV) and concerns about the Total Graphics Power (TGP) of the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3050 GPU.

You've been informed at the point of sale that your RTX 3050 has a TGP of 75W, but benchmarks and monitoring tools are reporting a TGP hard limit of 50W. This is understandably frustrating, and we're here to clarify.

Technical Note:  While 75W TGP RTX 3050 models exist, they are typically found in larger laptops with enhanced cooling. The Victus 15 series is designed for mid-tier gaming and prioritizes battery life and thermal efficiency, hence the 50W configuration.

Clarification on TGP for Victus 15-fb3012AX

  • The RTX 3050 Laptop GPU is configurable by OEMs (like HP) with TGP values ranging from 35W to 80W, depending on thermal and power design constraints.
  • On the Victus 15-fb3012AX, HP has set the TGP to 50W (including dynamic boost up to 60W in some cases), based on the laptop’s thermal design and cooling capability.
  • This is by design and is not changeable by the end-user through software or BIOS.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
