@NicoleD1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you're experiencing mouse disappearance, black screen issues, and unusual circles appearing on your display. Let's walk through some steps to help resolve this.

Check for Touchscreen or Touchpad Gestures

The “circles popping up” could be visual feedback from touch gestures or accidental touchpad input. Try these:

Disable Touchscreen (if applicable):

  • Press Windows + X → Device Manager
  • Expand Human Interface Devices
  • Right-click HID-compliant touch screenDisable device

Disable Touchpad Gestures:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Touchpad
  • Turn off gestures like “three-finger tap” or “pinch to zoom”

Update or Reinstall Mouse Drivers

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Mice and other pointing devices
  • Right-click your mouse → Update driver
  • If issues persist, choose Uninstall device, then restart your PC to reinstall automatically.

Check for Display Driver Issues

Black screens and cursor disappearance can be caused by display driver glitches.

  • Go to Device Manager
  • Expand Display adapters
  • Right-click your graphics card → Update driver
  • Alternatively, uninstall and reinstall the driver from HP or the GPU manufacturer:

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

To rule out hardware faults:

  • Restart your PC and press F2 repeatedly to enter HP PC Hardware Diagnostics
  • Run System Tests and Component Tests (especially for mouse and display)

Check for Malware or Corrupt Software

Unusual screen behavior can be caused by malware or buggy apps.

  • Run a full scan using Windows Defender or your antivirus
  • Boot into Safe Mode and check if the issue persists:
    • Press Windows + R, type msconfig, go to Boot tab, check Safe boot, and restart

Perform System File Check

To repair corrupt system files:

sfc /scannow

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run the above command.

If the issue started recently, consider performing a System Restore to a point before the problem began:

  • Go to Control Panel > Recovery > Open System Restore

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
