Hi @LIBBYDIB,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

When your HP 13" laptop suddenly won’t turn on, even when plugged in, but you see a faint internal light, it’s a sign that power is reaching the motherboard, but something is preventing a full boot. Let’s troubleshoot this step by step with care.

Why This Happens

  • Battery or power circuit issue (laptop only partially powers).
  • CMOS or BIOS corruption.
  • Faulty power button or embedded controller.
  • Hardware failure (RAM, motherboard).

Troubleshooting Steps (with empathy and sensory tone)

1. Hard Reset

  • Disconnect the charger.
  • Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds, feel the button click under your finger as you discharge residual power.
  • Reconnect the charger and try powering on.

2. Check Power Adapter & LED

  • Ensure the adapter LED glows steadily (not blinking).
  • If blinking, it indicates a power fault. Try another HP adapter if available.

3. Perform RTC Reset

  • Unplug the charger.
  • Press and hold Power + Volume Down (or Mute) for 15 seconds (varies by model).
  • This resets the embedded controller.

4. Try BIOS Recovery

  • Plug in charger.
  • Press Windows + B, then Power for 2–3 seconds.
  • Listen for a faint fan spin or beep. This means BIOS recovery is starting.

5. Inspect for Signs

  • If you see internal light but no display, the motherboard is getting power, but may have a display or logic board issue.
  • Connect to an external monitor to rule out screen failure.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
