HP OmniBook 7 Aero 13.3 inch Laptop Next Gen AI PC 13-bg1000 (AQ6X0AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,

Only one of the DP Alt Mode (DisplayPort Alternate Mode) enabled USB C ports on my HP OmniBook 7 Aero correctly connects to my external displays via my HP USB-C G5 Essential Dock.

If I switch between the USB C ports in Windows 11 settings System > Display both ports appear to be correctly sending video to the external displays. The two external and one internal displays appear. However, the external displays only work when connected to one of the USB C ports.

Has anybody else encountered this problem?

Regards,
Ben

Hi @treaders,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  1. Are you using the same cable and dock port when testing each USB-C port, or are different cables involved?
  2. Does the problem happen with both external monitors individually, or only when both are connected at the same time?
  3. Have you tried connecting the monitors directly to the USB-C ports without the dock to see if both ports work independently?
  4. Have you checked the HP Docking Station firmware and laptop BIOS/Thunderbolt firmware are they fully updated?
  5. Are there any error messages or warnings in Windows Device Manager under Display Adapters or USB/Thunderbolt Controllers when the non-working port is used?

Troubleshooting steps you can try

1. Update drivers and firmware via https://support.hp.com/in-en/drivers

  • Ensure Windows 11 is fully updated
  • Update Intel Graphics drivers / GPU drivers
  • Update HP USB-C Dock firmware (from HP Support)
  • Update BIOS and Thunderbolt / USB-C firmware on the OmniBook

2. Test the USB-C port directly

  • Connect a monitor directly to each USB-C port without the dock
  • Confirm if both ports support video output independently
  • This helps isolate whether the issue is with the dock or the laptop port

3. Swap cables and ports on the dock

  • Use the same cable that works on the functioning port to test the other port
  • Try connecting to different dock USB-C inputs if available

4. Check display settings

  • In Windows Settings > System > Display, ensure the correct display arrangement and detection are applied

5. Power cycle the dock and laptop

  • Disconnect all cables, power off the dock, and restart the laptop
  • Reconnect everything and test

I hope this helps.
