@User1Sach,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

Probably -your system can likely be upgraded from 8GB to 16GB RAM, and doing so will improve performance.

Based on your processor (Intel Core i5-7200U, 7th Gen), your PC is most likely using DDR4 SODIMM laptop memory and supports up to 16GB total in most HP models from that generation. However, to be sure, please share your full HP model number (e.g., HP Notebook 15-bsXXX, Pavilion 14-xxx, etc.).

If your current 8GB is a single stick, you can add another 8GB.  If you only got one RAM slot, you should be able to replace it with a single 16GB RAM stick.

If you got 2×4GB, you would replace both with 2×8GB.

To the question: "will upgrading to 16GB improve performance?"

Absolutely. You will notice benefits in:

  • Multitasking

  • Web browsing (more browser tabs without slowdown)

  • Adobe apps / MS Office

  • Windows 10/11 overall responsiveness

Generally speaking, going from 8GB → 16GB is one of the best upgrades for this CPU generation.

Will you see any issues after upgrading your RAM?

Usually no, as long as you match the correct RAM type. A few recommendations:

  • Use the same DDR4 speed as your existing RAM

  • Use a matching RAM kit -same brand and model
  • Prefer branded memory (Crucial, Kingston, Corsair, Adata)

  • Seat the RAM firmly into the slot

If mismatched RAM speeds are used, the system will simply run at the lower speed — this is normal and not an issue.

With the exact model, I can confirm the maximum supported RAM and the correct module type.

Kind Regards,
