There is a trade in program.  A lot of OEMs do that, not just HP.

It will be worth more if it is working although I see a lot of "parts only" systems being sold on eBay which is amazing.

If there is a problem with the system maybe I can help.

Thanks for the reply. The problem was with the hard drive, I replaced the computer under warranty, but after a while it happened again. Then I just forgot about it and had it for about a year.

If the hard drive was mechanical then replace it with an SSD.

If it was an SSD type to start with, then possibly it is overheating.  Did you transfer the heat shield from the old drive to the new one?  This app is free and can analyze problems with the SDD or HDD.  I purchased the pro version but I only enable it when I want to test a drive.  It can provide historical info on any drive.

HP is removing cloud recovery for system over 5 years old.
The actual wording is a limited time after the warranty expires
You may want to get a copy of the cloud recovery before it is too late.
Cloud recovery provides all the custom HP drivers.
Go to the below site and enter your product ID including the 3 characters after the # character
If you have cloud recovery you can restore your system using a 32gb flash.
It may take an hour or more to create the recovery USB.
