MY SCANNER AND PRINTER ARE NOT WORKING

Hi @WOWMARIA

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for reaching out, and I’m truly sorry you’re facing this disruption. It’s understandably frustrating when both printing and scanning functions stop working—especially when you rely on them for daily tasks.

Let’s walk through a structured set of steps to help restore full functionality.

1. Power Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer using the power button.
  • Unplug the power cord from both the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the cord directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors).
  • Power on the printer and check for any error messages.

2. Check Connection Type

  • If using Wi-Fi, confirm the blue wireless light is solid (not blinking).
  • If using USB, try a different port and cable.
  • Ensure your PC and printer are on the same network if using wireless.

3. Reinstall Full Feature Software

The basic driver may not support scanning. Install the full package:

  • Visit the official HP support page:
HP OfficeJet 3830 Drivers and Software
  • Select Windows 10 (64-bit) and download the Full Feature Software and Driver.
  • Run the installer and follow on-screen instructions.

4. Use HP’s Diagnose & Fix Tool (Windows)

  • In the HP Smart app, click Printer Settings > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Let it run a scan—it will automatically fix common connection issues.
You can also access this tool on HP’s support page if needed.

5. Check Windows Services

Sometimes Windows disables required services:

  • Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  • Ensure the following are running and set to Automatic:
    • Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)
    • Print Spooler
    • RPC (Remote Procedure Call)

If scanning still doesn’t work:

  • Try using Windows Fax and Scan or HP Smart App as an alternative.
  • If printing fails, check for paper jams, low ink, or offline status in Devices and Printers.

Keep me posted on how it goes I’ll make sure it reflects the steps you’ve already taken and gets you closer to a resolution.
