Microsoft Windows 11

Good morning.

I purchased my laptop with a 1TB SSD in it, and trying to upgrade to a 2TB SSD (PCIe Gen4 M2. 2280). I am trying to install WIn11 25H2 clean from ISO.

When I install in the machine, the System Diagnostics (F2 at Boot) sees the SSD and starts doing diagnostics with no problem, no matter what SSD I put in the machine. However, if I load the Win11 25H2 USB, and keep the OEM SDD installed, it finds the 1TB. I presume this is because whatever drivers are needed are found on that device?

However, when installing WIn11 25H2, again no matter what SSD I put in the machine, it won't find it even though BIOS has no problems testing it.

I can't figure out what OEM drivers are needed for Win11 25H2 to find the SSD, and the HP Support site only has like three or four drivers not relating to anything system board wise.

Can anyone point me in the correct direction? Please & Thank You!

Good morning:

Is there a reason why you want to clean install W11 25H2 on your new SSD?

Your PC is supported by the HP cloud recovery tool which you can use on another PC to create a bootable USB recovery drive to install the original HP factory image on the new drive.

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this:

HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support

You can download the software from the Microsoft Store.

HP Cloud Recovery Tool - Free download and install on Windows | Microsoft Store

Since you have to use the software on another PC, you will have to enter your PC's product number in the tool's search window in order to proceed.

Your PC's product number is BA3S1UA#ABA.

If you prefer to clean install W11, please see this discussion at the link below for the drivers I provided to another forum member with a similar model:

Good morning.

For some reason, my laptop actually is not detecting either the Samsung or PNY SSDs. They are both PCIe Gen 4.

I already created an OEM USB via the HP Cloud Recovery a few days ago, and figured there was something there that was blocking it being found, so my apologies.

Since these two popular PCIe Gen4 SSDs are not being detected, do anyone have one that is known to work and I can put in my machine and use the Recovery to get up and running?

Thank you for the response.

You're very welcome.

You indicated that the BIOS sees the drive just fine, etc., and it is just that Windows can't see it.

I gave you the drivers that Windows needs to find the SSD with in that discussion link I posted.

Have you tried cloning the original SSD's contents to the new one, installing the new SSD after the clone is competed and see if that works?

Samsung, Crucial and Western Digital all offer free cloning software to use with their drives.

Looking at the service manual the notebook only has support for one M.2 NVMe SSD, so in order to clone the drive, you would need to purchase a USB 3 to NVMe SSD enclosure.

Something like this:

Amazon.com: UGREEN SSD Enclosure, Tool-Free USB C External, 10Gbps M.2 NVMe to USB Adapter/Reader Su...

If for some reason that doesn't work either, chapter 3 page 21 of the service manual has the part number for the 2 TB SSD's that HP installs in the model series.

2 TB, M.2 2280, PCIe-4×4, NVMe, value SSD   HP part # P07215-005

I would have no idea where you would be able to find that part number because HP doesn't sell it and I could not find one on eBay for sale.

I have one of those USB adapters that I have for one of my SSD drives that won't fit in any newer laptop because of the heatsink. I threw the new PNY SSD I purchased on it and it won't read it at all in the OmniBook. I threw it in my old EliteBook i5 and same reaction there as well. Disk Manager won't load on either machine without an error.

I will swap it out and throw the Samsung on it and see if that one reads like it normally does on that adapter. If it does, then I will just purchase one of the Samsun EVO drives without the heatsink, so it fits in this machine.

I will update as soon as I confirm.

Good afternoon, Paul... Here are a couple updates...

"Is there a reason why you want to clean install W11 25H2 on your new SSD?"

One thing I have noticed is if I do the setup using Cloud Recovery, I have some restrictions with Microsoft stuff. For instance... Outlook that comes loaded on the machine... If I complete the setup, or I opt to bypass the setup (Shft-F10) and setup a local account instead, I can't set up a couple of my personal email accounts using Outlook. It tells me it can't find an associated work or school email account associated with what I am trying. If I do a clean install, I have absolutely zero restrictions to anything, on any software.

When use the Cloud Recovery, I have a key for Win11 Pro which I upgrade to with no problems. When I install clean, I also utilize the same key and it works perfectly fine.

The other thing I noticed, is there are some small, minor things I notice with Recovery install vs. Clean install. Something as small as not being able to rename Network Connections via Control Panel, where Clean install I can. I know that sounds dumb and stupid, but with the usage I do on my laptop and all the different VPN connectivity and NIC adapters I have to use (it's a requirement to segregate network connectivity per my job client requirements), it makes it a PITA when it's just Ethernet, Ethernet #1, Ethernet #2, etc. etc., instead of being able to name them.

I can't remember the other thing that was huge, but it was something with Media Player. I pull the SDCard out of my Trail Cam and view it once a week. On a clean install (and other machines), the MP4's play no problem. When using Cloud Recovery, media player won't play the MP4's as it says the codec needs to be purchased. Why it's a difference, I haven't the slightest idea.

Those are a couple things right there. I will install clean, and then install all the HP functionality software from their website.

You are most likely running into issues with secure boot. You have to clear the keys and program it for setup mode-- where it's ready to accept new keys
