HP 14 inch Laptop PC 14-em0000 (72X27AV)

Hello all,

I am not even sure if this a thing. When I hover on the icon in the top right corner, the one between the X and the -, a drop down menu appears with optional screen choices. Split screen, 4way split, 3way split etc. Can anyone tell me how to get rid of this menu? It only had 2 choices when I first happened on to it. Now it has 6. I am not sure how they are getting added either. Please please someone put my OCD at ease, and provide me the steps to delete. It would be much appreciated.

Thanx in advance

Cindy

@Askalot,

Welcome to our HP Community forum!

What you’re describing sounds like a window management feature, likely related to Windows 11’s Snap Layouts or a third-party tool. Let’s get your screen back to normal!

Try These Steps:

  1. Disable Snap Layouts Hover Menu:

    • Click StartSettingsSystemMultitasking.
    • Turn OFF the option “Show snap layouts when I hover over a window’s maximize button.”
  2. Check for Pre-installed Software:

    • Some HP models or apps (like HP Display Control or AMD Radeon Software) might add extra screen options.
    • Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager, click the Startup tab, and look for any apps managing displays.
  3. PowerToys or AMD Software (if installed):

    • If you use PowerToys, open it and go to FancyZones → Toggle OFF "Enable FancyZones."
    • For AMD Radeon Software, check the Display settings and disable any window tiling features.
  4. Update Windows & HP Drivers:

    • SettingsWindows UpdateCheck for updates.
    • Also, try HP Support Assistant for driver or software updates.

If you’re unsure where the extra options are coming from, try a clean boot* to temporarily disable third-party apps and narrow down the cause. Let me know if you’d like a walkthrough!

* A Clean Boot helps identify if a third-party app or service is causing the issue by starting Windows with only essential system processes. Here’s how to do it:

Steps to Perform a Clean Boot (Windows 10/11):

  1. Press Win + R, type msconfig, and hit Enter.
  2. In the System Configuration window:
    • Go to the Services tab.
    • Check the box "Hide all Microsoft services" (important!).
    • Click "Disable all" to turn off third-party services.
  3. Switch to the Startup tab and click "Open Task Manager".
  4. In Task Manager, disable any non-essential startup programs by right-clicking them and selecting "Disable".
  5. Close Task Manager and click OK in the System Configuration window.
  6. Restart your PC.

After the Clean Boot:

  • Check if the extra window options are still appearing.
  • If they disappear, a third-party app is responsible.
  • To find the culprit, re-enable services one by one (or in groups) in msconfig and restart each time until the issue returns.

Once identified, you can uninstall or modify the problematic software.

Let me know if you need any clarification!

Kind Regards,
