Subject: A Humble Request for Support in My New Career Path

Dear HP Philanthropy Team,

My name is Benjamin DeRaps, and I am writing with both humility and hope. I am 43 years old, unemployed for the first time in my life. I’ve always worked hard and poured my lifeblood into every company I’ve ever served — but after sudden layoffs, I now find myself at a crossroads.

Rather than give up, I chose to begin again. I recently graduated from the TripleTen Business Analytics program, gaining skills in SQL, Excel, Tableau, and Power BI. My dream is to build a career as a data analyst, using technology to create meaningful impact.

On a personal note, I am newly engaged to the woman of my dreams, and together with her two wonderful children, we are building a future. What I need most right now is the ability to continue practicing, building projects, and applying for jobs. The challenge is that I do not own a computer capable of handling the data workloads this career requires.

I do not feel entitled to ask for help, but if there is any way HP — as a leader in technology and a company that has changed countless lives — might consider donating a laptop or workstation suitable for data analytics, it would mean the world. This gift would not just help me launch a career; it would help me provide for my family and turn this moment of loss into a story of resilience.

Thank you for your time, your consideration, and for the good HP continues to bring into the world.

With sincere gratitude,
Benjamin DeRaps

Hi BenjaminDeRaps ,

Thank you for sharing your story with such openness. I can imagine how difficult this transition must feel, but it’s truly inspiring to see the resilience and determination you’ve shown by reskilling in business analytics. Taking this leap after a setback shows the kind of strength and perseverance that many employers value deeply.

While I can’t directly provide a donation, here are a few meaningful next steps that may help you move forward:

  • Explore HP Careers
HP regularly posts opportunities in analytics, data, and technology roles. You can explore openings here: HP Careers

  • Connect with HP Professionals
LinkedIn can be a powerful tool for networking. You might consider following HP on LinkedIn and connecting with employees in analytics or IT roles to learn more about the company culture and potential opportunities.

  • Look into HP’s Community & Philanthropy Programs
HP has initiatives focused on digital equity, education, and career development. More about HP’s efforts can be found here: HP Sustainable Impact & Community Programs

  • Stay Active with Projects
Even without high-end hardware, you can build and showcase projects using free cloud-based platforms:

  • Continue Growing Your Skillset
Kaggle is a great place to practice real-world data problems and connect with the analytics community: Kaggle Competitions

Most importantly, don’t lose sight of the bigger picture — you’ve already taken the hardest step by choosing to start again. With persistence, the right connections, and your clear motivation to provide for your family, this new chapter has every chance to become a success story.

Wishing you the very best on this journey, Benjamin — both in your career and in building your future with your new family.
