HP OmniBook Ultra 14 inch Laptop Next Gen AI PC 14-fd0000 (A4AD0AV)

Hi,
I bought Omnibook Ultra 14 with best AMD CPU that was possible. Since last month it has weird stutters after a while of using (only graphical ones. Sound works proparely). I can't recreate that in any sinthetic way, but just using it. Screen sometimes freezes and only possible ways to unfreeze it is to close and open the laptop or reset it. After first way laptop will be stuttering untill i reset it. I tried different GPU driver versions (old, new and stock ones), different windows versions (hp ones and microsoft ones), different power modes, bios is up to date, chipset drivers are also not the point. Do you guys had some simmilar problems, or maby know what i should try else? I would be very happy for any suggestions.

@Jc0b, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It sounds like you're dealing with a frustrating graphical issue, especially given that it’s only occurring after some use and doesn't seem to be reproducible easily in benchmarks or synthetic tests. Based on your description, there are several things you could try to isolate or resolve the issue. I'll walk you through a few troubleshooting steps, along with some general recommendations.

HP Diagnostic Tools

HP provides built-in diagnostic tools that can help identify hardware or software issues.

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:

Power off your laptop.

Press the Esc key as soon as you turn the laptop on, and then press F2 for diagnostics.

Run a full system check (especially the graphics and memory tests). This can help you detect any hardware problems that might be causing the stuttering.

HP Support Assistant:

Open HP Support Assistant on your system.

Use the Check for Updates tool to ensure that your system has the latest firmware, drivers, and software updates.

Run the System Scan to check for any issues with your drivers or hardware configuration.

Power Settings

You mentioned trying different power modes, but let’s ensure it’s all optimized.

Go to Control Panel > Power Options.

Set the power plan to High Performance.

Click Change Plan Settings, and ensure that the Processor Power Management settings are optimized:

Set Minimum processor state to 100%.

Set Maximum processor state to 100%.

Check for System Resource Conflicts or Corrupt System Files

Run System File Checker (SFC):

Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.

Allow it to scan and fix any corrupted system files.

Check Disk for Errors:

Open Command Prompt as Administrator.

Type chkdsk /f and press Enter.

You’ll need to restart your laptop, and Windows will check the disk for errors and attempt to fix them.

Test in Safe Mode

To determine if a background process or third-party application is causing the issue:

See if the problem persists in Safe Mode. If the issue goes away, it suggests a software conflict or driver issu.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I had the same issue on my HP OmniBook with Ryzen 9 AI (stuttering in Chrome and other apps). The fix was to disable MPO (Multiplane Overlay) with a registry edit.

Steps:

  1. Press Win + R, type regedit.msc, and press Enter (run as admin if asked).

  2. In Registry Editor, go to:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE → SOFTWARE → Microsoft → Windows → Dwm

  3. Right-click on Dwm, select New → DWORD (32-bit) Value.

  4. Rename the new entry to OverlayTestMode.

  5. Double-click it and set Value data to 00000005 (that’s seven zeros and then a 5).

  6. Close Registry Editor and restart your PC.

If it doesn’t help, go back to the same place, delete OverlayTestMode, and restart again to revert the change.

Hi, im sorry for late reply, but i did everything you suggested but it didn't help. I really appreciate your efford tho. I also managed to solve problem (i'm just after only 3h of testing so im not 100% sure yet). The fix was as DEFOG (another user) proposed making little change in windows registry. I hope HP will solve this with Microsoft soon so other clients won't suffer from this problem.
Best reguards!

And i want to really really thank you Defog, cos you propably (we will se in longer tests) saved me a lot of time and nerves that HP support in my country is giving me. I was literally on my way to call HP again (3rd time cos they always forgot to call back) to make the technician visit appointment, but i saw your response. I did it and it seems it worked. Really thank you. You are my hero!

Ok after testing i just started to personalize windows and it again freezed so i don't know  again what to do...

What a shame that it's freezing again. The stutters were driving me nuts, i managed to solve them with the registry fix though. Have you checked if the entry is still there in the registry, maybe some windows settings reverted it?

I also reinstalled amd adrenaline before i did the registry change (with factory reset and driver only install - so no adrenaline tools or settings).

Hope that helps and if I find out anything new I'll post here.

Happy to help btw! 🙂
