Hi @CiaraDavis,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

Sorry for the inconvenience caused don’t worry let me help you.

To better understand the issue, could you please provide a few more details?

  • The exact HP laptop model
  • Whether the camera stopped working after a Windows update or any recent changes.
  • If you see any error codes or warnings in Device Manager under Cameras or Imaging devices.

In the meantime, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

 Check Camera Settings

  • Go to Settings > Privacy & security > Camera.
  • Ensure camera access is enabled for apps.

 Reinstall Camera Driver

  • In Device Manager, right-click the camera device (if listed) and select Uninstall device.
  • Restart your laptop  Windows should automatically reinstall the driver.

 Use HP Support Assistant

  • Open HP Support Assistant (pre-installed on HP laptops).
  • Run a hardware check to see if the camera is detected.

 BIOS & Hardware Check

  • Since you mentioned BIOS is up to date, please also check if the camera is disabled in BIOS settings.
  • If the camera is not detected at all, it may be a loose hardware connection.

 Test with Another App

  • Try using the Camera app in Windows or a video call app (like Teams/Zoom) to confirm if the issue is system-wide.

I hope this helps.

Thank you Deep_World.  I have tried all of the options you have given below.  I dont have a driver for camera now as I followed the instructions and when I go into HP assitant it is telling me all my drivers are up to date.

when I go into BIOS settings I dont have an integrated webcam on it either. But the laptop does have a webcam and it did work in the beginning before updates.

My laptop is

Any other suggestions or solutions

Hi @CiaraDavis,

Thanks for your response. If the camera is not detected in Device Manager or diagnostics, this could indicate a driver corruption or, in rare cases, a hardware concern.
