@chauncey2, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Free Up Disk Space
Run Disk Cleanup → Select system files → Remove old Windows updates, temp files, etc.
Uninstall unused programs.
Clear large files from Downloads, Documents, and Videos.
Check Startup Impact
Open Task Manager → Startup tab → Disable high-impact items (except security software).
Run Storage Sense
Settings → System → Storage → Enable Storage Sense to automatically clean up temp files.
Check Drive Health & Fragmentation
Type defrag in Start → Optimize Drives → Check if it’s fragmented (only needed for HDD, skip for SSD).
Optionally, run: chkdsk /f /r in Command Prompt to check disk integrity.
Update Drivers
Use HP Support Assistant or go to HP's website to check for chipset, storage, and BIOS updates.
Clean Boot Test
Run msconfig → Select Selective startup → Disable all non-Microsoft services under the Services tab.
Reboot and time the startup.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
