I have an ai pc and it's my work,  design and entertainment system. I'm hooked from hdmi to my surround Yamaha rx-r2a receiver. The output runs into the arc(hdmi2) of the TV. My dish network is plugged in to hdmi 2 in that same receiver and works fine. I have called each product tech support several times and all say it has to be the computer.  I know I will feel real silly if I figure this thing. Too many high level techs. To many prompts, sorry for the rant

Hi @Jerry1102,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I’m sorry you’re going through this; I understand the concern and don’t worry I’ll help you with this.

 1.HDMI Connection Check

  • Confirm the HDMI cable from your HP laptop is firmly seated in both the laptop and the Yamaha receiver.
  • Try swapping the HDMI cable with another one you know works .
  1. Input Selection on Receiver/TV
    • Double check that the Yamaha receiver is set to the correct HDMI input for your HP laptop.
    • On the TV, make sure the ARC (HDMI2) is properly selected and not defaulting to another source.
  2. Laptop Display Settings
    • On your HP laptop, press Windows key + P and select Duplicate or Extend to ensure its sending video out.
    • Go to Display Settings - Advanced Display Settings and confirm the external display is detected.
  3. Graphics Driver
  4. Receiver/TV Compatibility
  • Some receivers and TVs have quirks with ARC/HDMI handshakes. Testing your laptop directly into the TV (bypassing the receiver) can help isolate whether the issue is with the receiver or the laptop.

I hope this helps.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster!
