Hi @cptflemme,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your system is showing a black screen after a BIOS update, even though you can hear the Windows startup sound. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Perform a Hard Reset (Power Reset)
This helps clear any residual power that may be affecting the display initialization.
Turn the PC off, disconnect all devices, and hold the power button for 15 seconds before restarting.

Try the BIOS Recovery (Win + B Method)
This can restore the previous BIOS if the update didn’t apply correctly.
With the system off, hold Windows + B and press the Power button, keeping Windows + B held for 5–10 seconds to trigger recovery.

Test with an External Display
This checks if the built-in display isn’t receiving the video signal.
Connect an external monitor and press Windows + P a few times, waiting a few seconds between each press to cycle display modes.

Remove and Reconnect AC Power and Peripherals
Sometimes peripherals can interrupt the video output during boot.
Disconnect all devices (USB drives, external monitors), then power on the PC with only the adapter attached.

Reset CMOS (if the model supports it)
This resets BIOS settings that might have affected display output after the update.
Use the CMOS reset pinhole or remove the battery if your model allows it, then power the system back on.

Use a USB BIOS Recovery Drive
This helps reinstall the BIOS if it has become corrupted.
On another PC, download your BIOS file and create a recovery USB, insert it into the affected PC, and power it on while holding Windows + B.

I hope this helps.
