I got this PC a few months ago and now the touch pad started acting up. after using the PC for a while, the pad becomes unresponsive and i have to connect a mouse to be able to work with it. I've run all the diagnostics and upgraded the drivers; however, nothing has helped. Any suggestions on how to fix this?

@Willy991, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since you've already run diagnostics and updated the drivers for your HP Laptop PC 15-fd0000, here are the next most effective steps to try. This touchpad issue becoming unresponsive over time, can often stem from power management settings, hardware conflicts, or firmware issues.
Disable Touchpad Power Management (to prevent it from sleeping)
- Press Windows + X → Choose Device Manager.
- Expand Human Interface Devices or Mice and other pointing devices.
- Right-click on HID-compliant touchpad → Properties.
- Go to Power Management tab.
- Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
- Click OK and restart.
Check Precision Touchpad Settings
- Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Touchpad.
- Ensure it’s toggled On.
- Click on “Touchpad” > Adjust sensitivity to High or Most Sensitive.
Reinstall the Touchpad Driver (Clean Method)
Sometimes updates cause conflict. Try a full reinstall:
- Go to Device Manager.
- Right-click on your touchpad driver under "Mice and other pointing devices" → Uninstall device.
- Check “Delete the driver software for this device” if available.
- Restart the laptop (Windows will reinstall a default driver).
Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers
If the issue is firmware-related, updating these can help:
- Go to HP Support.
- Enter your product number or model (70Q99AV).
- Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.
- Reboot.
Test in Safe Mode
- Boot into Safe Mode and test the touchpad.
- If it works fine in Safe Mode, a background app or driver might be interfering.
- Use msconfig (System Configuration) > Selective startup to isolate the problem.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
