Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory (Optane DCPMM) is not compatible with the HP Z4 G4 Workstation when using the Intel Xeon W-2245 processor.

Why it is not compatible

Intel Optane DC Persistent Memory requires Intel Xeon Scalable processors.

Xeon W-2200 series processors, including the W-2245, do not support Persistent Memory (PMem) in the memory controller.

The HP Z4 G4 BIOS does not include the configuration menus necessary for DCPMM (Memory Mode, App Direct Mode).

HP’s official documentation for the Z4 G4 lists only standard DDR4 ECC memory, with no support for Optane DC DIMMs.

What the Z4 G4 does support

Standard DDR4 ECC RDIMM or LRDIMM

Intel Optane Memory “cache SSD” modules (M.2 NVMe cache accelerators), not Optane DC DIMMs

NVMe PCIe SSDs (single or multiple via PCIe adapters)

Supported upgrade alternatives

If you want higher performance memory or storage, you can use:

High-speed NVMe M.2 SSDs

PCIe NVMe SSD add-in cards

Maximum-capacity DDR4 ECC RAM supported by your specific Z4 G4 configuration
