my laptop stays on and works normally whilst charging but has been stuck at 21% for the past couple of days. while plugged in, the number stays the same. when unplugged, the laptop enters energy saving mode and the battery continues to drain. not sure what i need to do. i have tried different chargers so it is definitely a problem with my laptop/battery. thanks.

@m3110, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems like your HP laptop's battery might be encountering an issue. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and possibly resolve the issue:

Check Battery Health:

  • Use the HP Support Assistant to check the health of your battery. You can find this tool by searching for "HP Support Assistant" in the Start menu. Once open, navigate to the "Battery Check" option.

Update BIOS and Drivers:

  • Visit the HP Support website and enter your laptop's model number to check for any available BIOS or driver updates. Install any that are found.

Reset Battery Management System:

  • Sometimes, resetting the battery management system can help. To do this, shut down your laptop and unplug the charger. Remove the battery if possible. Then, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds. Reinsert the battery, connect the charger, and turn the laptop back on.

Power Cycle:

  • Disconnect the battery and adapter. Press and hold the power button for 15-20 seconds. Reconnect the battery and adapter, then restart your laptop.

Perform Battery Calibration:

  • Fully charge your battery to 100% at least, leave it on the charger for a few hours, then use the laptop on battery power until it shuts down automatically. Recharge the battery fully before turning on the laptop.

Check Windows Power Settings:

  • Go to Settings > System > Battery. Ensure that the power settings are not restricting the battery charge level.

Consider Battery Replacement:

  • If the above steps do not resolve the issue, the battery may need replacement. It could be nearing the end of its lifecycle.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
